Debriefing
Debriefing is an important part of pregnancy and postpartum care that can support women emotionally before and after giving birth.
If you are having trouble processing your birth story I can assist you with some clarity as a first step. We can run through your story together and I will be able to provide listening ears and clinical explanations along the way. Following our conversation I may refer you to a perinatal counsellor to debrief how you are feeling after receiving some clarity and information on your birth experience.
Birth workers and support people deserve the opportunity for debriefing too - and this is what I can also offer these special people.
Backed by clinical knowledge and 14 years of midwifery experience, I create a supportive space for you to talk about your unique experiences, acknowledge your feelings, and get the psychological care you deserve for your emotional wellbeing during the often forgotten fourth trimester and onwards.
It is never too late to debrief your story.
What is involved?
I offer birth debriefing 1:1 with you (and any support people you wish to have present) virtually.
Face to face can be arranged for in-person sessions if you are located on the Central Coast.
This service is for women who wish to explore and discuss their birth experiences in greater detail, providing a structured space to process emotions, ask specific questions about the care you received, and seek answers to some questions you have.
We can discuss how your birth may impact decision-making in future births, I can give you strategies on working through any birth-related trauma and I can refer you on to other health professionals to make sure you’re getting the best care possible.
Some women attend these sessions with their medical records - I don’t feel this is always necessary. With or without clinical notes we can piece together the story from a clinical perspective (some things only a midwife may understand clearly) and we can reflect on how these events impacted your birth.
We can have one session, or many. There is no set time frame for processing such a big event like birth, but we can do it together.
I allocate 1.5 hours for our session as that is to most common amount of time most women need, if you feel like you need more or less time write a note at the time you book.
